granola bars

26Sep08

I’m doing a bit better on snacks these days, thanks to all the good suggestions! I’m excited about the granola bars I made. My first attempt turned out pretty well.

The bad thing is, they are so good I kept eating them!!! I threw them all in the freezer and now I’m only allowed one per [...]

millet

23Sep08

Today I tried cooking some millet. Cooking new things is not as hard as I thought it would be. I guess it is just hard breaking out of routine. Isn’t that true for everything? Oh yes, I almost forgot–millet is gluten-free.
*animal lovers, avert your eyes!*

Lamb Stew with Millet
1 lb lamb (I bought the kind [...]

teff

19Sep08

I have decided to branch out and try some different whole grains. I always buy the same things over and over–brown rice, oats, oat bran, and cous cous. It is kind of silly how I never ever deviate from those same grains! I thought I would share some of my shopping experiences with you all. [...]

soccer

17Sep08

M had her first soccer practice today! It was so cute watching the kids run around. I’m not sure M quite understands that you are supposed to listen to the coach, but I’m sure she’ll come around. You know how there is always that weird kid who stands on the side with her hands in her [...]

I stumbled across a 1 minute muffin recipe today. It’s freaking nuts!! It looked totally unbelieveable, so I had to try it out right away. I tried googling to find the original creator, but the recipe is all over the place, so I think it is ok to post here.
1/4 cup fresh ground flax
1/2 [...]

10 weeks old

15Sep08

E-chan went to the doctor today! She is 10 weeks old and growing up so fast. 13.7 pounds and 23 inches tall. I’ll have to check M’s baby book, but E-chan is so much bigger! She has nice healthy fat rolls all over and smiles all the time. I could just eat those cheeks of [...]

Check out this funky ravioli I found at Costco! It has portabello mushrooms and cheese in it. It looks kind of like chocolate. But it tastes like mushrooms.

Weird, huh?

This is slow going, but it has started to resemble a sweater. I had to frog a whole ball of yarn (that’s what I get for skipping a gauge swatch) but I’m about 1/3 done now. My gauge is pretty variable depending on the day. I’m making a size small which should hopefully translate to [...]

boiled peanuts

12Sep08

Here’s a good low-carb, high protein snack: boiled peanuts. They are kinda high in sodium and calories but if you leave out the salt they don’t taste so good. Just don’t eat too many…
Boiled Peanuts
1 lb. raw peanuts in the shells
2.5 Tbsp. Hawaiian rock salt
2 star anise
Soak the peanuts in a big bowl of water [...]

And the bento stuff goes to Elizabeth, of Random Snapshots! Thanks for entering my little drawing. I’ll have something else to give away next month so stay tuned.
Hey you know what is funny? 3 out of the 9 people who left comments are named Elizabeth!
Thanks for all the snack ideas as well!!
