back in business
Got tired of waiting for Viking to finish giving my machine a tune-up so my nice husband let me get a back-up. I’ve given up on my machine coming back any time soon–what on earth are they doing with it? Is it lost? It wasn’t even broken to begin with. Poo. You can bet I will be writing some letters after I get it back. Anyway, say hello to my new friend.
It’s a basic Kenmore ($90) and I got a $20 one year warranty. Sweet! I can take it back if it breaks and they will give me a new one. It just does some zigzag things and straight stitching but it totally works.
The first thing I did was make some diapers and diaper covers.
The blue and black ones are just Malden Mills fleece with snaps so I can put prefolds in them. They will probably wick under some compression but they are great for just one pee. The other two are AIOs for when we go out. You can get the pattern for Chloe Toes here if you are interested. PS You get a great deal if you can score one of the remnant bags they sometimes have on the Malden Mills website. I have a crazy amount of nice fleece for diapers. (You can’t be picky about the colors, though–)
I signed M up for soccer next month (that should be funny) so I decided to finish up these pants. We made a pair for her little friend and I never got around to finishing hers, but now they are done. She’s all ready to go with her shin guards, too. My, sports stuff has gotten fancy from when I was little. I would have killed for some adidas shin guards!
I’ll have to dig up more sewing UFOs so I can finish them and then make some new stuff!

i must be crazy
I booked a flight in November for the 3 of us to visit my parents in WA. Plane ride solo with 2 kids? Ha ha ha that just sounds ridiculous, doesn’t it. Hopefully M will walk on the plane by herself so I can carry the carseat and E-chan. K is going to fly up to WA for a few days and then take the return flight back with us so it shouldn’t be too bad…right? I hope I can make it there in one piece. M will be almost 4 and E-chan will be 4 months.
So, if I make it there alive, it would be great to do some visiting with my bloggy friends. We’ll be in town from Nov 7 - 21. See you then!

thanks a lot
To the AssHat who stole our stroller:
Thanks a whole lot. You ruined my day and now I have to lug the other stroller up and down the stairs every time I want to go for a walk. I shouldn’t have left it in the corner of the parking garage (it was only 2 hours!) but why did you feel the need to steal a kid’s stroller? Jerk. I hope you break your ankle pushing your kid around in OUR red stroller.

I got a nice break today from BOTH kids! I had a wonderful 2 hours off from pee, poop, whining, cooking, and boob sucking. Isn’t parenting the greatest? LOL Seriously, it was so invigorating and refreshing to get some time to myself. I pumped a bottle for E-chan–I got a crazy 4 oz at one time. Lactating is just so fascinating, especially when you can see what is coming out. M never had a bottle–I had trouble with her latch up until she was 8 weeks old so I didn’t want to fool around. I did get a pump later when I pumped for a friend in need, though. So E-baby did just fine without me and drank 3 oz. of the EBM.
For my time off I had to stay away from anywhere that sold food so a trip to JoAnn’s was out of the picture–damn those candy stands by the register! I went to Seal Point Park in Foster City to do some rollerblading. Don’t laugh, I hope I can walk tomorrow! Started off a bit shaky, but did about 3.5 miles? That’s probably not that far inline skating wise, but I had the wind in my face on the way back so it was tough going. It was just beautiful along the bay and hardly anyone was on the trail, just a bunch of kite-boarders.
It was so nice along the trail, just listening to Michael Jackson on my ipod and enjoying the view. It’s funny how lax you get about things when the second baby joins the family. I was way to uptight to leave for even a short trip to the store when M was born! In fact, I don’t think I left her until she was about 8 or 9 months, actually. Ha ha that’s funny now that I think about it. Oh well, you are allowed to do that with your first!
So I hope I can get out of bed tomorrow. As you get older, the muscle soreness seems to hit a day later than it used to, doesn’t it?

Another easy dinner for moms whose babies think that 6pm is the perfect time to get all fussy and crabby. What is with that, anyway? I pan fried the chicken in olive oil and pepper, then added some sundried tomatoes and ready made pesto sauce (Costco). It tastes great with parmesan cheese. This time we got squash and some sort of round zucchini type things in our vegetable delivery so I roasted those in the oven with olive oil, oregano, and red onions. Delicious!
Crafty things are totally being neglected–my machine is still gone and it is pissing me off to no end. I have called them 5 times and the ladies that work there are irritated with me. Well, find my machine and I will stop calling, dammit! It is throwing off all my creative energy so I just mope around and feel agitated. I did get a bunch of diapers cut out, but I need my machine to finish them off!!!!
I’ve also started an exercise blog so that’s keeping me busy the rest of the time (when I am not worrying about my prized possesion). There are some hideously scary pictures on there so I’m not quite ready to share the site yet. But, if you really want to join in on the fitness parade, I’ll let you in–drop me an email to let me know.

chinese chicken salad
Food post! I haven’t done one of these in a while because I’ve been sort of cheating with cooking. Lots of easy stuff from Costco like shrimp pad thai, marinated meat, bean salad, etc. The best stuff is the precooked grilled chicken breasts, though–perfect for salads, pasta, and sandwiches.
Chinese chicken salad has got to be the best salad to eat in the summer. It’s a good way to clear out stuff from the fridge and pantry too.
I dumped this stuff in:
green leaf lettuce
bell peppers
carrots
cucumber
sugar snap peas
cherry tomatoes
red onions
It would have tasted even better with some almonds or peanuts and green onions, but I didn’t have any.
I made the dressing from this website, and you can also find a recipe on the back of the won ton strips package, too. I cut the amount of sugar in half and used regular yellow mustard. Oh yeah, half this recipe made enough for 4 servings if you don’t like to have extra dressing left over.
I followed this recipe by Giada to make the roasted eggplant and tomatoes. I didn’t have canned tomatoes so I just cut up a fresh one–also left out the bread crumb part and sprinkled parmesan/peccorino cheese on the top instead. Yummy!
Like my new Corelle dinner plates? I don’t know how we went a year before buying big plates (lazy, I guess), but now they are my favorite. Plus the way the dishes clink together remind me of my grandparent’s house in Hawaii. They’ve had these Corelle dishes for as long as I can remember–white with a brown trim. I think it is the gold butterfly pattern, but I’m not sure. Anyways, I’ll get around to picking up more pieces later!

1988
We’ve sort of settled into a routine here so I got the chance to do some decluttering. Stuff breeds stuff in our little apartment. Sometimes I look around and it looks like something has exploded all over! I try to keep all my craft stuff in the office on my side of the room, but often it starts spreading all over the place. I was getting rid of old papers and junk and came across some funny stuff from 1988.
Thank god I never grew up to be an inventor! What the heck was I thinking. No way anyone would want to put their head in that scary thing, LOL. I must have been 8 or 9 years old and in 3rd grade. Ok so I never learned anything in elementary school math either, ha ha ha.
I don’t think my brother reads my blog, but this one would make him cry! I’m such a mean sister. He’s bigger than me now so he’d beat me up for writing something like that–good thing I am much nicer now.
And, words of wisdom from an 8 year old me. Now I kinda feel bad for letting M watch all those videos when I was pregnant…
I don’t think I can let go of these papers quite yet, they are so funny to read now that I am old and all grown up.

100
Hey look, 100 posts! I had grand plans for a great giveaway, but after searching around, I couldn’t really find anything gift-worthy around here. Oh well. I’ll have to think of something good for number 200. It doesn’t help that my machine is still in the shop. I hate not having it!!
So I really can’t get over how expensive everything is in California, but I just love all the great parks in the area. Plus it never ever rains, so you can go out every single day. What a change from Seattle! The local AP group has been meeting at Ryder Park. It is such a neat park that we have been there 3x this week. There are climbing structures, spinny things, swings, a sand pit, and a water fountain. M has this thing about water so she wouldn’t go near it, but after watching all the kids playing and having fun, I got her to put her swimsuit on. She still stays a good foot away from the water, but at least she put her suit on. I must have the most cautious kid on the planet… All that only took 4+ hours at the park, good thing I brought the sunscreen.
We found a tricycle on craigslist–she won’t actually pedal the thing unless she is going down sort of a slope, but at least she has one now! I’ve heard a bike with training wheels is actually easier to ride, but we have no where to put it.

free yarn
Remember this project? Well I never did progress any further than I had when this picture was taken. I knew deep down this would never ever get finished so it’s long gone–frogged. Anyone want the yarn? I’ll send it to the first person who comments that they want it. Free shipping, free yarn! It is wool with a cotton core from handpaintedyarn.com (novelty boutone), 1040 yards. Two hanks plus two skeins in a ball.
Now I just have to figure out what to do with the dreaded manos blanket. Should I finish it? Should I frog it and make something else? I can’t decide. What do you do when a project is 1/3 done but have completely lost all motivation? I really need to do something with the yarn because it is already wound up into cakes and probably getting all stretched out. Bleh. What would you do?
eta: Thank you SpinningLizzy for the rewinding tip! I think I will hold onto the project for a while longer, and re-cake my yarn. Now where did I put it?
